Well, it has been nearly two months since my last post (simply to busy getting my book together) and it is also nearly a year since I made this site which is fantastic. I originally created this site for the brilliant Beatnik and his Ukulele music teaching software and with in doing so I took up the Ukulele and began to learn myself (slowly and not to good ha) but I thought I would post again for people looking to learn the Ukulele with Beatnik.
Just heard this on a radio the other day and really liked it so I just had to hunt it down. Every one remembers the song that was written by Prince and song by the talented Sinead O’Connor – Nothing Compares To You, a beautiful song and classed as a classic.
Well I heard this version being played on the Ukulele by an Australian singer-songwriter by the name of Dan Kelly and I loved it. Have a listen, it is very cool, very chilled out version of this song and again making the Ukulele the king of instruments.
I have seen just a couple of bad reviews for the latest music adventure by the great Eddie Vedder and these bad reviews have come by the hard core die hard fans of Pearl Jam who just cannot comprehend what Eddie is up to, but, to music lovers and also Ukulele fanatics, this is truly a beautiful and personal album and I love it.
In recent weeks I have only come across Amanda Palmer who is formerly from the group The Dresden Dolls but has become a solo artist, or as announced on her blog on Tuesday 26th, may now have a new band called “8 in 8” and have just finished recording a new album.
I have been attracted to her talent and also to her interest in of course the Ukulele.
I have come across some cool videos (below). She is a very talented lady I must say. She has been involved in theater as seen from her musical production The Onion Cellar.
This is such a gorgeous tune. Soon, very very soon Eddie Vedder has a brand new album been released called “Ukulele Songs” and by the sound of some of the tracks I have heard it sounds amazing. This is song number 8 from the album and it is sweet.
The release date is May 31st and will be released with a DVD “Water on the Road.” Just sit back and enjoy the amazing voice of the amazing Pearl Jam front man that is Eddie Vedder!!
Learning To Play The Ukulele – Find The Correct Training
Year 2014 seems to me to be the year of the Ukulele come back, and with the amount of celebrities taking up the interest in this wonderful instrument, the growth in its popularity has been phenomenal.
With the ever more exposure to great music from the likes of the legend Israel “IZ” KamakawiwoÊ»ole (RIP) and Jake Shimabukuro, Ukulele music is popping up all over the place from movies, TV programmes to TV adverts, and people are buying Ukuleles and trying to learn how to play (like myself).
Everyone out side the Ukulele box is starting to join the people in the box, who know the name of Jake Shimabukuro, the talented and brilliant Ukulele player known for his complex finger work. Jake is yet another Hawaiian star and will surly reach the legendary stardom of the late Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwoʻole, if not there already.
Jake, with his Uke, enters the genres of jazz, blues, funk, classical, bluegrass, folk, flamenco and rock and has been compared to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis.
Types Of Ukuleles
By Roy T. Cone
There are many different types of ukuleles available on the market today and are played in a variety of different venues as well as for different types of music. Many of them are shaped like guitars and some are shaped round and called banjo ukuleles.
Ukuleles were introduced in the United States in 1915 and since then have become a popular form of musical entertainment. They were predominant in Vaudeville acts as well as in the Jazz Age. They have even found a way to modern music.
Hollywood Is A Growing Uke Fan!
This was done to plug there 2008 movie “Bart Got A Room” and though we know that Kate is a fantastic Ukulele player, William seems to be a talented player too ( I wonder is he as good as Steve Martin?).
I’m a big fan of Kate Micucci and I have only discovered her lately, very cool woman. Her site is well worth checking out.
Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwoʻole
He is a famous Hawaiian musician and remains one of the major influences in Hawaiian music over the course of 15 years.
His album “Facing Future”, released in 1993 was an instant hit, especially outside his homeland world wide and his music was used in TV, Films and Commercials, making him a true music Idol.
Just Who Is Beatnik?
He is mostly know as “Beatnik” (cool name) is very creative and artsy type of a guy and also a successful animator and games creator. He is the vice president of a highly respected television studio in Los Angeles and director of an educational media company.
Beatnik is a self-described Ukulele Hedonist who learned how to play the very same way you are right now – by finding some cool, helpful sites online and watching some great tutorial videos.
